When first announced, SMN Athens was due to be held in April 2020. The plan for then was to review and discuss “the pace of progress” since SMN’s first-ever conference in May 2019, also in Athens. It was entirely appropriate that we planned to use our second visit to Athens to review the first year of Smart Maritime Network’s existence.
We were asking industry leaders to share their insights on how digital innovation had been embraced in the previous year and whether the argument of cost versus growth was still stuck in the same place. The key twin drivers of digitalisation and sustainability were to be the core focus of the event.
Navexpo 2020 trade fair cancellation / Covid-19 crisis
Of course, our event, unlike others, is not affected by the current gauge constraint limited to 5,000 people. However, despite the necessary health measures that the show plans to implement, in recent days we have been seeing cancellations from French exhibiting companies who do not want their staff to take any risk or who are forced to reduce their costs. because of the economic crisis which impacts them. In addition, international exhibitors are also obliged to cancel their visit to France because they are either subject to a return quarantine in their countries, or not authorized to travel to Europe.
