NYK to Build Two More LNG Carriers for TGCPL

Listing details

Description
Japanese shipowner NYK has signed a long-term charter contract with Total Gas & Power Chartering Limited (TGPCL), a subsidiary of French energy major Total, for two LNG carries to be built by Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries Co.

The duo is scheduled for delivery in 2021 and will be equipped with a WinGD-made dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine ( X-DF diesel engine) that can operate on marine gas oil or boil off gas stored in the cargo tank.

NYK said that the two carriers will also feature a re-liquefaction system that can use surplus boil-off gas effectively. The contract follows the long-term charter deal NYK and Total inked in September for another new LNG vessel. The LNG carrier is due to be delivered by the end of March, 2021.

The newbuilds will have a 174,000 cubic meter capacity membrane-type cargo tank that will make use of advanced insulating materials to suppress the boil-off rate in the cargo tank, attaining efficiency and economical LNG transportation.

Samsung revealed at the time that the contract was worth around KRW 200.1 billion (USD 180 million).SHI’s order book for 2018 now stands at 44 vessels, including 13 LNG carriers, 13 container ships, 15 tankers, and 3 special purpose ships. The shipbuilder’s order book is valued at USD  5.4 billion USD.
